    Ex-yugoslavs go as gastarbeiters since the the middle of the last century. Bulgarians have this elite opportunity after the fall of Communism. You had the time to build big , numerous and rich communities especially in Austria, Southern Germany.

    Also, Bulgarians do not stick to each other like other nations. You cannot see Bulgarians in a foreign country who stick together. They are most of the time individual, with their wife/husband max. Unless they come to you and tell that they are Bulgarian, you cannot recognize them. Organisation are very weak if existent anywhere.

    That's why you cannot see them. But in Nürnberg only, they are 100k. The Bulgarian government hides the real numbers of the Bulgarians outside the country, because the society would be shocked.

    Seems sad. Without a sense of community, they will be easily assimilated into the cultures they live in. That way the Bulgarian ethnos is disappearing everywhere, not only in Bulgaria.

    So it seems that'll be the future of Europe: an overpopulated West vs a deserted East.

    Why are you surprised? Macedonians are even worse! They talk in front of you fairytales, when you leave they start backstabbing you.

    Typical for them is to use people even for very tiny benefits, then abandon them. Macedonians do that against everyone, that's why their countrymen avoid them in Western Europe.

    Organisations are also very weak, Macedonians stick to other ex- Yu nations , but not to their own.

    Bulgarians are more or less the same , but among Macedonians its much more visible .

    This is not the case in Australia or North America. Macedonians are well organised there and in large numbers

    Last year, Croatian bureau of statistics estimated population of Zagreb at 808,785 for year 2020. LOL

    Yet, according to new census results, Zagreb has 20,000 less people than on census 2011. - 769,944

    although, looking at 2018 vs 2023 data on Numbeo (see below), Bulgarian cities show an improved economy/much higher average wage than 5 years ago - doesn't this help keep people in the country? for example in Romania many move back from the West these years - at some point in a team of 10 people there were 2 of us who never lived abroad (me included) while all other 8 were Romanians that lived for at least 2 years to over 10 or more years abroad and came back.

    2018 -> 2023, average wage, according to Numbeo:

    Sofia:____________615.27 € -> 1062.15 €
    Plovdiv:___________487.72 € -> 776.19 €
    Varna:____________459.13 € -> 761.58 €
    Burgas:___________423.70 € -> 671.78 €
