My grandparents' autosomal results

The autosomal results for my maternal grandparents are ready.

Grandpa (Moldovan/Romanian) - all ancestry up to his great-grandparents comes from a single village in the South.

Grandma (Ukrainian) - born in Ukrainian village of Orthodoxised Catholics, which nowadays is 50% Ukrainian and 50% Moldovan/Romanian at the census. She could also be mixed with Moldovans/Romanians judging by the results and some surnames on her side, although plenty of Ukrainians in Carpathian/Chernivtsi/Moldova area are like her genetically.

Needs more results from the South to make such conclusion. He indeed looks northern for the region, especially his Baltic score is very high despite he have also high East Med. Local Bulgarians/Gagauz don't score such high Baltic, only if they are mixed.

Yep, though East Med is definitely on the Southern side, together with the very low North Atlantic.

I already knew from the samples that I have in my project that people in the South have heterogenous results. I wrote a post that summarises the genetic diversity of the South here.

There are academic samples from the ethnically Moldovan/Romanian village of Caplani in Stefan Voda district. My grandpa is from the Southwest, while they are from the Southeast end of the country at the border with Ukraine. The samples in blue have results similar to his.

Very high Baltic simply overcompensates for the very low North Atlantic. This can be seen in other calculators that have different Northern or combined Northern components.
Same goes for high East Med vs low West Asian. If you look at Dodecad K12b, where grandpa has 25% Caucasus and 5% West Asia vs 25% Med or HarrapaWorld with 22% Med and 24% Caucasus + 6% SW Asia, this becomes clearer.
Unfortunately no calculator is perfect yet and we have to look at the big picture.
