The same logic would apply to a handicapped person, some people are just capable to plod along even if they don't understand the magnitude of it and be supportive and others would just turn their face in disgust even if part of their own family. I find it all comes down to your upbringing and most importantly the way you are wired. Maybe the same person that found your dog adorable, would be happy to show interest to the down syndrome person as well

Also your pup is adorable indeed XD
Thank you for your message and for finding my dog cute! I find your opinion interesting and important, including because you are a doctor.

By the way, I find it extremely paradoxical that on the one hand, we live in societies where wokism is everywhere, advocating inclusion and equality of treatment for people who are not within the norm, even praising abnormality, and on the other hand, we advocate the elimination of children with abnormalities in utero. For ex., in the case of Down syndrome, the vast majority of the babies are aborted, it is promoted. And with the possibility of the “therapeutic abortion”, you can abort a handicapped baby until the end of the pregnancy. It’s like four hours before the term, the abnormal baby is a nobody that can be aborted, while once born, the baby must be protected. It’s so schizophrenic and I’m sure many handicapped people feel really bad because we want to eliminate people like them before they are born.

Thanks Laly, I appreciate you too.

Since we are focusing on Down Syndrome, these babies are aborted not on the basis of equality but poor quality of life. They remain child like for the rest of their lives. Once their parents die, if they aren't lucky to be born in a developed country (strong social care), i'm not sure what their future entails. There are variations in this syndrome if i'm not mistaken though, the degree of retardation varies from case to case but i have no idea if obsestricians these days can make a prognosis on the degree of retardation the child might have before it's born and make a decision based on that.

Dear Hithaeglir, thank you! I understand your argument. But still, I wonder who we are to judge whose life is worthy to be lived and I’m sure many people with Down syndrome, for ex., are much happier than many normal people.
