When it comes to mixed people between Croats and Serbs in the Diaspora, the mixed ones tend to stick with the Croats, perhaps because Croats are Catholic and more western than the Serbs, then they are more popular with the Austrians, almost every half Serb half Croat was Catholic in school. But in Serbia if they live there they might stick to being Serbian?

That's not what I observed. I tend to think half Serbs will usually identify as Serbs in majority of cases. My ex is half Serb half Croat born in Croatia and he declares as Serb/Orthodox on census. His father is a Serb though so maybe that plays a role.
