    Default Map of medieval universities

I think it's a cool map, not necessarily what people naturally associate with medieval times but many today were founded in this era already

There is a part of eastern Europe on the animated map (twitt link). I didn't make the cut in the book from where the picture is from so yeah that's how they cut it. I guess they appeared later further east.

Anyway i think it matches to a certain degree the stats posted around about European accomplishements in science. Always the same thing, did the chick came before the egg..

Is Huesca and not "Usses" (1354), and Alcalá and not "Alcale" (1499) in Spain.

And Valladolid "Studium Generale" was founded in 1241.

Palencia "Studium Generale" is accepted as founded between 1208-12, but there exist some documents from 1184 and 1196 that could indicate a previous existence.

In Finland and Estonia about 1630. The status was changed to university, but a seminary or seminaries existed earlier.

Edit. I checked it. First seminary was founded around in1250 (first cathedral school).

Edit. Obviously the inauguration of the first university meant to fulfill in some extent same programs than Upsala.

The Imperial University of Constantinople - Magnaur School (also Magnaura or Magnavra, probably from Latin: Magna aula - "Great Hall") is the highest and most prestigious school in the Byzantine Empire, founded in 425. It got its name from the Magnaur Palace, where It was housed around 855. The imperial children and members of the high Byzantine aristocracy, and in some cases high-ranking foreigners who were preparing for future state and church careers in their native countries, were educated there. It was founded in 425 by Emperor Theodosius II with 31 departments - law, philosophy, medicine, arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, music, rhetoric and other subjects, taught in 15 of them in Latin and 16 in Greek. It lasted until the 15th century, and was periodically transformed into a private or church-affiliated educational institution. It never acquired the official status of a university of the type that appeared in the 11th-12th centuries in Western Europe. It was destroyed in 1453 after the fall of Constantinople.
...Even if a man lives well, he dies and another one comes into existence. Let the one who comes later upon seeing this inscription remember the one who had made it. And the name is Omurtag, Kanasubigi.
