Could there have been an interest in cutting off the roots of immigrants for better intergration? And did you face such things iregarding your ancestors from the British Isles?

Another problem are American researchers that assess the question whether an information is significant or not erroneously. If they have an "Johann Hinrich Ihde" from "Mecklenburg" they go into a database and take a fitting one, not being aware of that there may be 250 fitting ones. And then they go on building the correct huge tree for this very likely wrong individual.
I haven't experienced that particular problem with censored information. However, the internet claims, on family trees, can be ludicrous at times. I've seen "records" that claim that the children are older than their parents and that a man has a husband. I don't remember this inaccuracy and lunacy in the past. Like a lot of things, the LDS genealogy site went down the tubes. It was maintained and structured better in the past. Some helpful research sites are gone too. I don't understand why such things are devolving.

That fits in very well in the timeframe of the gold rush to Minas, from 1700 to 1760. A true flood of Portuguese in that region, for sure.

I'd like to trace my ancestors as far as I can, no matter how remote. But I'm not the best genealogist

Probably because of the commercialisation of genealogy and normies flocking to it, more interested in proving their link to Pocahontas or whoever than the truth.

That is why you ignore other people's family trees and start your own from scratch based on your own research. The tools for doing that have never been easier to use or more readily available (Ancestry.com Library account or another service with records, Newspaper.com, Genealogy Bank, etc) so it's just a matter of having access to these services and the diligence to do the research.

For you digging you italian ancestry might be very interesting as many notables have lived in those lands since long time ago.How far can you reliably trace more or less on average?

I can trace back to my great grandparents on both sides (except my Chinese side, my grandpa never told us) I know where they come from, but the names I don't know really.
