Like the chicanos? Yeah, pretty much. I believe those users act that way because they probably have faced a lot of discrimination for their ethnicity or race so they lean on their parent's identity, but without actually living in the country they feel the need to compensate by acting like the most Latino people in existence.

Hard to answer. I was born in Serbia and raised in Austria. But my motherland is I assume India if you define motherland as point of origination of a ethnic group biologically. The only thing I do Indian is eating at indian restaurants and I read the Mahabharata, watch some Bollywood movies, most of my culture is serbian in Austria Im too recent to really have adopted fully into the culture/traditions/customs. If I had kids maybe they would, if I they are born here and I give them german names, and teach them german and german culture. Biologically they still would not be german, but they would have accustomed into german culture.

In my case, I always felt just Brazilian, nobody had/have any attachment to Italy and Iberia among my family members.

My paternal grandpa, for example, as far I as know, he never felt attached to the culture of his parents (Portuguese mom from Trás-Os-Montes and Italian father from Lombardy).

I only became interested in these cultural/geneological/phenotypical stuffs in my teens, for the wrong reasons, but it's interesting to see the diference between hyphenated mentality vs fully assimilated.

And keep in mind that many Brazilians are of 100% colonial stock, so they feel just Brazilians, since they don't even know where their ancestors come from.

That's complex. My birthplace Budapest is the first what is a different place inside Hungary and what i love very much, after that Transdanubia (West Hungary), the third is Germany, and the four is other parts of Hungary.

In my case it is the same but for sure homeland is the only that matters. A negro or a Moroccan could born here, I will never consider them Spanish. And like me, many more think so. Birthplace is circumstantial.

The food, the things they brought from there, and of course the language, even though i do not speak it. I loved listening to my grandmother I think if i went to Spain, i'd feel a strong connection. But I am a US citizen and it definitely feels like home here.
    Well said, baby
