We're on our way. The United States is a large country (both in landmass and population), and thus more difficult to subjugate to tyrannical rule than, say, Austria, Australia, and New Zealand. This pandemic regime has met considerable pushback in our country, and rightly so. We're at a distinct advantage when it comes to any number of resistance/mainstream opposition movements, something that I suppose is often unacknowledged on this forum.

Yes, your country is under attack too, but you have advantages. Besides those you've mentioned, your people have a lot of personal arms, even automatic, and your regions (states) have some autonomy.
    Do what you should.

The independence of Ukraine, like that of Belarus, were accidents precipitated by political upheavals in the heart of the Russian world, following the end of the USSR. Not being nations or peoples, but expressions of varied combinations of the kaleidoscopic cultural margins of Russia, there is no objective collective identity, a diverse social organization, a family structure of its own, nor a political and institutional tradition, but only religious and linguistic particularisms, as much or less expressive as those in other regions of Russia.

The difficulty of Westerners in understanding what is being confronted there - the myth of a "nation" in the face of the evidence of history - brings us to the problem of the invention of nationalities, as Patrick Geary superbly put it in the introduction to The Myth of Nations (2002), a work that I have read in the 3rd Italian edition, 2019. "Nationalisms" are always violent and excessive the more they lack authenticity, since in the absence of a past, it has to be invented in the form of rational belief, that is, the ideology of a group that occupies power and seeks justification and legitimacy to exercise it. Strange that the EU, always so eager to condemn nationalisms as warmakers, is so enthusiastic about "Ukrainian nationalism". If there is a war, no one can predict it, it will be more a war between two Russias than a conflict between nations, so Western Europe, much less the USA, should interfere if not with good offices that lead the parties to common points of consensus. Unfortunately, there are those who want a war at all costs to justify the maintenance of European servitude to a certain idea of the international order dissolved by the collapse of the Soviet world.
