Default British eye colour (Parliament study)

Phew, that took a long time. With 648 MPs, I excluded those of foreign background (along with several Jews), those with no photo (for some reason all Sinn Fein members didn't have a photo) and those where eye colour was not visible for some reason giving me a total sample size of 532. Luckily the images on the official website were of excellent quality.

    Results:

    blue 46,2%
    grey 21,8%
    light mixed 8,1%
    evenly mixed 7,9%
    dark mixed 9%
    brown 6,9%

In total 68% light eyes and 76,1% if you add light mixed. We must remember this includes all the UK so not just England. Scots and Northern Irish are probably a bit lighter eyed than the English, while Welsh are a bit darker eyed.

I will contribute to this thread by referencing to another study of blue eyes in the British Isles, Germany and France.

Cornwall is the darkest part of Britain, not Wales.

Yep I'm aware of that study. If we average 13 regions of the UK on that map, we get 47% blue eyes. Only 1% more than what I got.

Interesting, brown seems very low, always thought the British were more like 20% brown eyed or more like 30% in Wales, 25% in England and 15% in Scotland, less in NI.

Yes I would've guessed those figures too.

It's true. I counted less than 10% brown eyes in my survey of 750 English sportsmen, the common ~25% number is for all dark eyes.

Scots/Northern Irish probably only add about 1% light eyes to the UK average.

"Dark mixed" are basically brown with small light parts. Overall there are 16% dark eyes and 24% dark plus dark mixed.

There is one MP that stood out among all the rest when it comes to eye colour. She has the bluest blue eyes imaginable. Her eyes are so blue, they couldn't be more bluer:
