U.S. AND RUSSIA AREN'T THAT DIFFERENT

Here are some brutal and bitter and ultimately gloriously redemptive facts: Lest we forget, indeed. Wars to end all wars, as the New Yorker points out, give way to wars that never end. And the "war on terror" itself is a chimerical circle, just like the "war to end all wars". President Wilson's war to end all wars defeated imperial Germany, but it did not, and could not, defeat war itself, exactly as the New Yorker says. Each loss of a life in this tragic war is a reminder and a revivification of lessons never learned from history and a warning about the fragility of peace.

Alas, it was a lesson never learned, a hope and a "bold and innovative plan" shown in the ensuing years to have been absurdly misplaced and insincere. Human history is indeed a mess. And the history of the world is indeed the history of human folly. It may, but more likely will, take more than war to end all wars. Speaking of which, the never-ending war on terror ("We're going to win the war to end all wars, even if it takes us forever!") went droning on and on, as the Huffington Post noted in 2013, and we now have space-age wind-up toys doing our assassinations for us. There is also a clear pattern by which the FBI generates terrorist plots from sting operations. And the United States recognizes sting operation as a viable means of crime prevention. And as Huffpost noted, David K. Shipler in 2012 reported a story in The Times entitled "Terrorist Plots Hatched by the F.B.I". And it is certainly important and worthy to note the crisis situation that the world has come to regarding genocide. Fear or distrust of government is obviously necessary and proper, and this comment on the YouTube video "WTC7 Simulation Evaluation: World Trade Center 7 Collapse Research Study" may serve as a strong word of caution and as a sobering reminder, and as well as a wake-up call:

People can call it a conspiracy all they want but I just want the truth...it is insane to think that our own government would do this to OUR people...what is to stop them from doing it again and again? If we stop asking questions and demanding the truth they get away with it. Free to walk amongst us and plan their next atrocities. They deserve to be brought to the light and face a judge. We should feel safe in our country when we go to work. Our kids should feel safe when they go to school. We should feel safe when we attend gathering or concerts. Right now no one feels completely safe doing those things. I went to my first concert recently and spent the whole with the thought in my head that I was waiting for a shooting or a bomb to go off. It is rediculous and shouldn't be like that. We aren't really free if we live in fear. And the people who did this didn't just kill the people in those buildings. Everyone who breathed in that toxic air after it happened suffered. All those people who dug through the rubble breathing in that also suffered and died. People who were there on the streets caught up in that dust cloud are still alive and suffereing. People are STILL DYING from that. Whoever did this killed way more than was the official count. It deserves justice. WE deserve justice and instead we were given lies and called crazy for questioning the narrative. Maybe we are crazy. Maybe it was this that made us that way. Watch your family and friends have cancer and lung damage gasp for air as they are dying years after this happened and tell me it wouldn't make you crazy too.

It is certainly important to challenge an uncontested ideological orthodoxy or the apparently meaningless whims of the powerful or the irrationality of prejudice and superstition. And to call someone a conspiracy theorist or inevitably (and absurdly) a luddite is, in truth, to say something insultingly vague or poorly defined, because as we all know conspiracy theorists come in degrees, from weak to strong. Government itself has killed more people than anything else in history, and I almost don't see how government itself can otherwise be seen as benign and as capable of kindness, goodness, and charity. Government Worshippers need a history lesson, in other words, along with all the other skills and lessons they need for the myriad areas for which they are woefully (or willfully) ignorant. Understanding and knowing that the government is capable of such outrageous and reckless and bankrupt acts is the first step toward creating safeguards and caveats and regulations against any recurrence or progression. The Catholic Encyclopedia notes that from time immemorial Asia Minor has been the highway of nations crossing from east to west, and occasionally reversing their course. Indeed, it is the highway or bridge, the network or system that connected people throughout the region and the world, and has an obvious practical or beneficial value that even the densest among us can appreciate. At the same time, however, it is also arguably the "highway to the Danger Zone." We can only wonder how history would have been different if it hadn't existed. In a similar manner, we have the following corollary. And it's worth quoting the publisher's description of Alan Fisher's book entitled
"The Russian annexation of the Crimea, 1772-1783":

The Black Sea and the coastal areas have played an important role in the history of eastern Europe and western Asia. Byzantium, Kiev Rus, the Golden Horde, Lithuania, Poland, the Ottoman Empire and Muscovy all tried to control parts of its area at various periods in history. From 1475 for three hundred years the Ottoman Turks controlled the Black Sea and the lands surrounding it. In 1783 Catherine annexed the Crimean peninsula, with its Muslim Tatar population, to the Russian Empire after a major Russian military victory over the Ottomans. The effect on the Ottoman Empire was significant. It lost its Tatar military forces when traditional means of securing recruits for the army had broken down; lost its secure northern frontier - the route to Istanbul itself was now open; it lost, for the first time, a Muslim province. This book provides a scholarly and balanced account of an important part of the transformation of the Muscovite state into a multinational empire. It also contributes to our understanding of the decline of the Ottoman Empire.

Of course we've all heard that Afghanistan is "the graveyard of empires". Blah, blah, we've all heard that phrase thousands of times, just as we've all heard by now that Asia Minor is "the highway of nations". The entire region of Anatolia is impressive, to be sure, and deserves recognition, but it only partly covers the central and overall issue of international migration or the movement of people, which the Guardian refers to as "globalization". Call it the controversial issue surrounding the movement of populations and pathogens across porous borders, to use the words of Peter Koehn's article in Globalization and Health. In fact, the Black Sea is indeed where history never ends. But even more so and as pointed out by Kelley L. Ross, the grassland across Eastern Europe and Central Asia, termed the "Steppe", is one of the great highways of world history. And what about Ukraine? One might ask, and I would, in fact, go so far as to ask, who is responsible for the mess Ukraine is in? Even the Economist has asked, and probably rightly so, and goes as far as wondering, whether Yulia Timoshenko's erratic and idiosyncratic rule is responsible for much of the mess that Ukraine is now in. In fact they hold her personally responsible for the mess that is "Ukraine." In ancient times, says the Encyclopedia Britannica, Greek and Iranian settlements appeared in the southernmost portions of what is now Ukraine. For Romans, too, the Pontus Euxinus region had become increasingly important, and in fact the Pontic region has been shown to be important both for Greeks and Romans. As the Carta Historica notes in "Black Sea in the Antiquity", Pontus Euxinus is Latin for "hospitable sea," a euphemism for the earlier name "inhospitable sea," as the Black Sea was known for its stormy weather, harsh currents, and lack of islands to visit. Also found in the cartouche is the phrase "Aequor Iasonio pulsatum remige primum," indicating that this was the sea first traveled by Jason, the ancient Greek hero who sailed to find the Golden Fleece. Indeed, this places the map firmly in the realm of classical mythology. The proceedings of the Sixth International Congress on Black Sea Antiquities (Constanţa - 18-22 September 2017) also illustrated the importance of the Pontic or the Black Sea region for the Graeco-Roman World, especially from the seventh century BC to the fifth century AD. The New York Times is to be applauded and commended for acknowledging that the Black Sea is without a doubt a cradle of civilization, trade and cultures, but unfortunately today it is also a region of unresolved conflicts, porous borders and rivalries. And let's not forget that the Caucasus, lying between the Black and Caspian Seas, is a further route joining the Near East and the western steppes, from where the earliest food-producing economies are known from the sixth millennium BC, as pointed out in the article titled "Some like it hot: environmental determinism and the pastoral economies of the later prehistoric Eurasian steppe" in Pastoralism: Research, Policy and Practice. The Black Sea region, Putin himself has insisted, is as dear to Russians "as the Temple Mount in Jerusalem" is to Jews and Muslims (as noted in a HuffPost article titled "USSR 2.0 From Grozny to Moscow"). I would like now to consider this interesting and relevant fact, as it is bound up with my interest in identity and identity shift or change. As for the proto-Indo-European homeland itself (in this instance, the steppes bordering the Black and Caspian Seas), one proposed diffusion map (among many), by Kelley L. Ross, starts things off northeast of the Caspian Sea. And while we're at it, how about northwest of the Caspian Sea? It is truly outrageous that so many ancestral homelands have been proposed in this context. The problems associated with these rather vague and fanciful and naive proposals are many, as a long-standing debate and disputation over the difficulty of generating answers or judgments universally accepted as "correct" indicates, and a lot of anecdotal information suggests. In addition, this issue is compounded by the fact that territories without nations are arguably not homelands. As Aleksandar Pavkovic and Christopher Kelen note in their book "Anthems and the Making of Nation States: Identity and Nationalism in the Balkans," the homeland itself, in addition to the nation's possession of a homeland, is also a place of the birth of the nation and therefore stands in a relation of motherhood and/or fatherhood to the nation. Homelands are thus conceived both as symbolic spaces that nations possess as homes and as symbolic wombs from which those nations have sprung. But enough debate and deconstruction. I totally agree, and above all I think we can all agree, with Rajesh Kochhar's assertion in "The Vedic People", and I find the following illustrative quote to be the most tremendously meaningful and thought-provoking passage:

The proto-Indo-Europeans are allotted the contiguous territory to the south of the Finno-Ugric, that is, the resource-poor steppes bordering the Caspian and Black Seas. It is noteworthy that this territory has not been associated with any other language group. The Finno-Ugric homeland, on the other hand, is confidently placed in the resource-rich northern forest zone of Europe extending from the Baltic Sea to the eastern side of the Ural Mountains.

This is arguably the most stimulating section of the book. And indeed, I'd consider the Black Sea-Caspian region to be the perfect battleground on which to prove the superiority of one's race or religion over others. We all better believe that it is "the battleground of the battlegrounds". It makes the Mahabharata War look like a picnic or like child's play or like kindergarten play, or like playing tiddlywinks. And undoubtedly it is a battleground of competing empires and ethnicities. And you could go further and you could say that it is the graveyard of races and cultures of the ancient and medieval world. Or, to put it another way, it's where races and cultures go to die. And to put it in yet another way, and all of which is another way of saying: It's a place where races, languages, and cultures are born but where they also go to die.

Russian people as a whole are more based with strong European traditional values.

They are by far more decent as a people. Economy is secondary if you have a soul and Russia as a nation has one in spades whereas the U.S doesn't really tries to make up for it with money
