Default Why no one knows that France was Nazi in World War 2

They had the Vichy Regime, it was the vast majority of France. The French were very enthusiastic collaborators, even parts of Northafrica were under the Vichy Regime the French Vichy Regime and even there they killed Jews. Even in Northafrica they killed Jews that proves, that they really want to exterminate them all not just make them leave Europe.

Historically in France the anti-english feelings are more significant than anti-german. You can see it nowadays too in the english-french fishing "war":

The French have enough of a cross to bear with migrants trying to steal their country without being tormented further about what some dead Frenchmen did to Jews when most of them weren't born or existed as dependent children.

The vast majority of France was after the French surrender under German occupation and beginning in late 1942 the "Free Zone" was occupied by Germans as well because of the looming danger of an Anglo-American invasion. Vichy regime was in control of civil administration in all France though. It would be correct to call it a fascist, not a nazi regime though. It was a puppet regime of Nazi Germany too, not exactly free or independent. Here is a map of occupied France during ww2. There was also a small area of Italian occupation in the south.

It's best to keep it simple, dumb and manichean in history books, one evil/one victim. "Explaining antisemitism is already antisemite" Sarkozy once said (the only smart thing he ever said). Trying to explain how and why everybody was antisemitic at that time, and long before, to new generations is a sketchy process today, especially as it was even more present in intellectuals than the general population. From Voltaire to Kant you have to reconcile the fact the most brillant minds, starting from the enlightenment age, all agreed and were openly hardcore antisemitse/racist up until the 30's. It's like today the woke sjw seem to discover the whole word was racist, everything they read/use in their daily life has been created by a blatant racist. People fought for their countries and independance, not against these ideas.

WW2 was a continuation of WW1, it would have happened without the jews, although likely did precipitated it and played a part in the end. Petain is still popular in the regions under the Vichy regime, it's mostly the very old people who don't care and have a very different view of the war, as some actually lived through it.

    Agreed to most.

Btw. if there had been no holocaust, being antisemitic would likely politically not be a big topic. Why should be cared for if someone likes or dislikes Jews? There is also not cared for if someone likes or dislikes Poles, Finns, Germans, Russians, Englishmen, proletarians, nobles, mearchants, peasants, Catholics and Protestants.

And yes, fascist instead of "nazi" seems more applicable.

I once read on wikipedia, wiki having some book as a source I believe, that Himmler wanted Burgundy to be annexed to the German Reich and to be colonized by 1 million Germans. It didn't say though if Hitler agreed with this plan.
