ABC News suspends 'The View' host Whoopi Goldberg

ABC News suspended "The View" host Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks on Tuesday night, hours after she apologized for having falsely declared on the daytime program that the Holocaust was "not about race."

"I said the Holocaust wasn't about race and was instead about man's inhumanity to man," Goldberg added. "But it is indeed about race because Hitler and the Nazis considered Jews to be an inferior race."

She continued, "Now, words matter and mine are no exception. I regret my comments, as I said, and I stand corrected. I also stand with the Jewish people as they know and y'all know, because I've always done that."

After her on-air apology, Goldberg hosted a discussion with Anti-Defamation League president Jonathan Greenblatt. Greenblatt later said on Twitter that he accepted Goldberg's apology.

But Goldberg's initial comments had still roiled staffers across ABC News. Some staffers believed disciplinary action was warranted, according to people familiar with the matter who asked to remain anonymous because they were not authorized to publicly comment on the matter.

Others, however, came to Goldberg's defense and noted that her comments were made out of ignorance, not malice. One ABC News staffer told CNN that Goldberg had apologized and appeared to learn from her mistake, which they believed was key in evaluating whether to accept her apology.

What a horrible crime she committed.

I agree that the Nazis perceived Jews as being an inferior race, but I don't think she should be punished for being incorrect. It's not the same, for example, as repeating false information to the public about a trial in process, such as the Rittenhouse trial, which the women on this show The View did. It's just a dumb opinion that hurts no one that can be countered by an argument. The other women on The View are morons, so the best they can do is disagree without coherently explaining why they disagree.

It has to be about race. The holocaust is the main pillar of modern anti racism, and like any religion you need a sacred martyr with a founding event people can repent on. If tomorrow here a disproportionate amount of Bretons or Basques would turn out to be thieves, fraudsters and murderers, nobody would question there isn't a problem with them, as nobody cause say it's about their race. It absolutely has to be about race in the story telling wether it was completely true at all time or just one part of the story. Otherwise that would reopen the pandora box of actually criticizing people about their own doing regardless of the race, yet would still turn out to be mostly directed towards racialized people. The grass has to be cut underfoot before it happens and for it to keep working as intended.

From the zillions of antisemitic quotes through history it did slip progressively about race in Germany but most of them in the first place were about their behavior as a group of people, nation (or a non nation for that matter).
