Is smoking part of European culture?

The European Commission is calling for stricter actions on tobacco regulations in a bid to have a tobacco-free generation in the EU by 2040. However, the global number of smokers continues to grow.

Is this an impossible task given how far it is embedded in European culture?

Less and less young adults are smoking in Croatia. Me and some of my friends quit smoking too. So there is def. a tendency towards less smoking than before. More people care about healthy lifestyle now.

In the Muslim world, there is still a prejudice towards women smoking, so it is heavily imbalanced

I'm pretty sure if you take the % of male adult smokers only, Turkey would be higher (because the relative lower % of female smokers drag the average down, still 29% is above European average)

You see in France a negative effect (male % is lower than average %, which means more women smoke than men); while for the entire Eastern Europe, Balkans and Turkey, it is much higher.

Its not part of European culture but rather just an addiction that stays with people who consumed tobacco since young age and can t stop with it,therefore making it a lifestyle for them,making tobacco big thing for their life.
Just look at the Balkan statistics,most of those consumers were and are youths who likely started smoking in high school.
The Youths should be indeed focused,and i dont think increasing tobacco products will stop the smokers from smoking..its just too much of a need.

I see less and less people smoking cigs here, more vaping (if anything). Things have changed a bit since my parent's generation, when the weirdos were the ones who didn't smoke cigs.

Do you feel the price should be increased to accelerate this trend? In the UK, the money you would spend to buy 1 pack would get you 3 packs in Croatia (and 4 in Bulgaria)!

The relative cheaper price in Eastern Europe certainly doesn't help to stop youngsters to smoke, while here it's above 10 EUR a pack of 20 cigarettes
