Canadian CBC Sports journalist Sarah Jenkins called for figure skating to be removed from the Olympic Games program because of Russia’s dominance. She wrote about it on Twitter.

“I think we should remove from the Olympic Games all sports dominated by one or another country,” the journalist believes.

In particular, she proposed to abandon figure skating because of Russia’s leadership, from cross-country skiing because of Norway, from bobsleigh because of Germany and from speed skating because of the Netherlands. Jenkins did not specify whether she seriously took such an initiative.

At the moment, the publication has collected more than 680 likes.

Earlier on February 7, Russian figure skaters won the Olympic team tournament in Beijing. On the account of the national team – 74 points. The U.S. team has 65 points, the Japanese have 63. Among the Russians, the winners were Kamila Valieva, Mark Kondratyuk, Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov, as well as Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov.

In general, the sport is too aggressive. It emphasizes the dominance of the winners over the non-winners and makes them miserable. You can not do it this way.

Figure skating (and gymnastics) has become much more complicated over the past 15-20 years.
Once upon a time, this performance (Salt Lake City, 2002) was considered outstanding (and still considered I think), but what is being done now is generally rocket science in comparison.


Difficulty is the main reason why top-level careers last so short (1-2 years). The proportions of the body have changed during puberty - it's all over. Previously, in general, they easily skated until almost 35 years old.

Synchronized skating is funny/good way to keep in shape.

There have been lots of talks about Russian doping system (last years). I really hope that this could be fake call. Otherwise this feels really bad (how systematic that can still be) if 15 years old will face it too.

I know there aren't much to said but still suprise there is no thread about it.
It's mainly european countries who compete.

That's because we despise what the Chinese CCP has done with the uyghurs, and pretty much the rest of the freaking world (with covid- Wuhan lab).. etc

These winter Olympics, should HAVE BEEN BANNED/ DISCARDED. Teach them a lesson.
