Default Do musical styles cycle to produce a more current sound?

I think we identify the decade of music by the chord progressions that seemed to dominate the popular music of the time. Certain eras favored different forumlas. Mostly music gets recycled and it comes around again to produce a sound that is current, even if we have "heard it before". If you take the music in the decade it was made, are there are some styles or songs that are more timeless than others? Maybe simple music ages best.

They are generally getting more chaotic because modern people are bombarded with data and don't have the time to think much.

But yeah, many modern songs are based on samples of older music.

Yes. And I have noticed that often times the songs that really affect me, seem to have something old and nostalgic, while at the same time containing elements that I have never heard before. A combination of new and old.

It felt like back in the 2000s, bands like The Killers brought back that real Rock music for a time.
