Mostly Locke. About the role of state, it does protect individual rights but also it should also serve the general will so in between Locke and Rousseau.

Hobbesian all the way. In a colonial scenario like this continent it is inevitable.

    None of them, really.

I don't believe people are inherently good nor evil. If they were inherently good, then their will would not so often be expressed in frenzies of evil. If they were inherently evil, nothing good could come of the society of evil people, they wouldn't struggle so much to find that which is good.

Most people are malleable and great ideologies are just vanity writ large. The idle chatter of idle minds. Nothing comes of philosophising things too much. No society adheres to any one ideology, it's all compromised, partial, contingent, ad hoc and in flux.

    All is flux.

Government is a societal technology. If the people are mostly stupid, then a patrician, theologically heavy government is best for them. If a people are cunning and greedy, then a small police state is best. And if a people are quite intelligent, then a state that aims at guarding the citizen's liberties, is best.

It all depends on what you have to work with and where you wish to go. Never put ideology above means and material.

In my opinion, we exist as part of a universal process of self-awakening. So we should get out in the universe. And evolve as we interact with technology,
