    Americans have individualistic and hedonistic attitudes compared to Europe. Even if Europe has more state spending on welfare, its culture is more conservative, families are more united, less divorces, less obsession with equality, etc.
    Actually, quite a few European countries (principally Catholic and Orthodox ones, interestingly) have divorce rates comparable to the US:
