Not an atheist though but i see that as a "radical movement" because Russia consists of a lot different religions, muslims, shamanistic religions, buddhists etc. so its very normal that Russia hesitated to embrace a religion for long time until post-2014, leaving others outside. But its understandable after Maidan because Orthodoxy is the strongest connection between Russia and eastern europe, something that would be useful in battling non-Orthodox "the west".

Russia didn't hesitate to embrace religion, it was Christian for most of its history, except for the Soviet period, when religion was persecuted. After the fall of the SU, there was a massive Christian revival and millions of Russians got baptised. It's just a return to their centuries-old culture.

Fully aware of it. The Americans did a far better job denazifying the West, but only up to a degree. Let's just call the "Schandmauer" for what it ironically actually was: an "Antifascistischer Schutzwall" to keep Russian and East German fascism in the East. In that respect, the GDR term was correct, just not in the way they meant it.

Putin tries a military government or with an emphasis on the army. About religion. An Orthodox church was built for the army in Russia
