I don't recall anyone saying that the Ukrainians were a dangerous threat to Russians. The issues are the following:

1) the Russian speaking minority in Ukraine and the discrimination that came about when ultra Ukrainian nationalists (with assistance from the US) took power in 2014 and created an ethnic conflict.

2) that this pro-US Ukrainian government would allow NATO/US armaments in Ukraine.

The US has consistently lied to the Russian government going back to the early 90s when they said they'd be hands off on Ukraine. Naturally, you get a little nervous when another power orchestrates coups in nations that border your own, while they have missiles pointed at you.

I'm not even a Russophile. I don't like Putin and generally find Russians annoying with their gay dreams of former Soviet Union 'power' and the many excuses they come up for their disaster of a country but I can be objective - unlike most people with their historical grievances against Russia - and I can honestly say I can't find fault with the Russian government in this conflict.

The war has already started, it's a bit late to talk about responsibilities now.

Why? It's very important to examine the background. First of all Ukraine started to opress the local minorites, have you heard about the ukrainian language law? Or the pogroms against these minorities commited by the ukrainian neonazis? The ukrainian government did nothing against these atrocities, but they supported it. Do you think harassing the minorities is a democratic thing?
What did Brussels and Washington said in 2014-2015 when the civil war has started? They promised everything to Ukraine, and encouraged the ukrainians because the American Empire wanted to expand, and this american expansion constantly happening since the 90' years. And look around now, the liar western politicians don't do anything to save Ukraine, because these promises were all lying, and now these miserable ukrainian civilians are suffering because of NATO megalomania and the faults of their own government.
If Ukraine really would've wanted to be an independent state then they would have declared the military neutrality like Austria or Switzerland did and they don't allow neither the americans neither the russians in their country, but Ukraine choosed a different option, they wanted weapons, tanks, total militarization and the way of war. This is the result, that's why ukrainians will die now. Why Ukraine cannot be neutral? Because their politicians didn't want the neutrality. Yes its the time to talking about these thing, the NATO and the ukrainian government started the fire, although they knew very well how the russians will react. They knew it, and these poor ukrainians sucked the liar demagogic promises from Brussels and Washington, and now they will die alone. I don't say Russia is innocvent in this conflict, but pls don't pretend that the NATO is band of peaceful angels. Laughable.
