What if my ancestors from my mothers side weren't actually Hungarians but Slovaks?
It's something that is going through my mind lately.
So let me give you an example and expanation.
Southern Slovakia is as known full of Hungarians, it was part of Hungary for more than 1000 years.
Now Slovak Hungarians and Slovaks don't differ each other that much in looks, we know the central-Europeans are in fact just Slavs with Balkanic and Germanic admixture.
Some Hungarians also have alfold admixture, which is tied to the creators of the nation. But this is also in small numbers common in Slovaks too.
So the question is that, aren't those central-European countries rather tied with their "Language, Traditions, History and Culture" rather their DNA roots?
Can a Slovak moving to Hungary, then speaking Hungarian and get asimilated get called Hungarian and vice versa?
My mothers family as we know don't really even know to speak Slovak properly, it's my mom and uncle that speak it pretty well. But also we can't know that 300 years ago they could have spoken Slovak.
In Slovakia it's know there was going on "Magyarization" which was basically attempt which was successfull in many cases to asimilated Slovaks in Hungarians. Now it's working vice-versa where Hungarians will turn into Slovaks in upcomming
years.
