Russia and China developing new currency

Won’t all these sanctions on Russia just accelerate Russia and China along with the rest of the BRICS nations developing a new currency and stepping away from the petrodollar? I personally don’t think another nations currency should be the base for trade. There should be a cryptocurrency to facilitate this trade. Is this something that’s possible very soon or am I way off here?
