What? All of their industry pretty much failed due to poor economic skills, most of their industry is still in the 1800s (originally their industry consisted of slaves pulling cotton wheels, which was nothing in comparison to the industrial revolution occurring in Europe at the same time), they also fell for the socialism meme (Gandhi was a batshit insane anarcho-communist who thought everyone should wear home-made products, Nehru was a Fabian socialist who had a boner for Soviets) which stalled development for the last 70 years and the only reason they have an IT "industry" is because they're third worlders who speak English, turn up for work, willing to work for low wages, won't try to install backdoors, won't chimp out and there's a billion of them, so cheap easy labour perfect for call centre support cubical farms.

They were always a peasant society built like a pyramid with more lower than upper classes divided by religion and caste system and as soon as the British Empire left you see these groups at each others throats again.
