It was one of my favourite games, especially the first one.

I played the first. Im not a big fan of playing computer games (I basically dont even try them) but that one keeps me apart from the real world for months. What's is more exciting from a programmer perspective is that it was a really impecable product but at times did not seem unfeasible to be conceived and developed (outside industry I mean). For example, Doom 2 (the other PC game to which I became addict) had top 3D graphics and specially a real masterpiece of graphical engine, totally out of reach for this humble servant of yours.
Ps. Specially pleasure I felt watching (and earing) the workers mining gold for me, or simply chopping and collection wood. I felt...powerful and I confess I truly liked it.

Just to add that this one is the only pure computer game (online chess is another matter) Im still remotely considering to play it again.

Been playing The Age of Kings & The Conquerors without interruption since 1998. Now there's only one of my veteran friends whom with I play from time to time. I don't have much time for gaming either and I also like to try other strategy games.
I am a particular fan of the Total War saga (specially the shogun series) and the Starcraft games, although I also like a lot "the Cossacks", "Patricians" , "Caesar Series", "Warcraft II", the Spanish "Praetorians, and Imperial Glory" and also that old turns based game on the American Civil war who's name I can't remember

I loved that game. I'd usually play as Goths, Celts, or Huns.

That's when I'd pump out Goth Huscarls since they have high pierce armor and are almost invincible against arrows.
Anyway problem with multiplayer is I would focus to much on my economy (line up the farms so they look nice and neat ) & I was usually always on the defensive because of that.

The Mongols where brutal, gotta luv those archers in fast horses they have.
If anyone wants to play the game again in multiplayer (since MSN zone closed long ago sadly), you download a software called Gerena. Easy and free to use.

AoE II in a nutshell.
Standard difficulty: PWN game quickly with siege engines.
Moderate difficulty: Can't build 30 villagers (and so 6 houses) in 5 minutes with hot-keys? PWNED.
