South Africans would never be mistaken for Australians. I think he sounded Broad Australian, IMO.

I find it difficult to imitate an Aussie accent, too. My bestfriend growing up was from Australia. I loved her accent. When we were teenagers she stopped talking with an Aussie accent. I'd always ask her to talk with it, though.
