    Question Question to pro-Putin people

    Can you explain why exactly do you support Putin / Russia in this conflict? What is your reasoning?

    I just don't get it because Russia is clearly the aggressor and Ukrainians only defend themselves.

    Ukraine has been waging a war on Donetsk and Luhansk for 8 years.

    Killed thousands of civilians.

    I'm against the war, but Casus Belli is enough.

    I'm asking mainly pro-Russian people who are not Russians, pro-Putin Westerners etc.

    No, it was Donetsk & Luhansk rebels supported by Russian "green men" (similar to those who invaded Crimea) who waged a war on Ukraine for 8 years since 2014. Actually it could be even Russian "green men" supported by rebels (we don't know what the proportions of troops from Russia to real local separatist rebels were).

    I know in Russia you have different points of view, but everyone in Europe sees the war in Donbas of 2014-2022 as a Russian invasion of Donbas.

    =====

    I personally think most Westerners who are pro-Putin do it because they don't use their brain and blindly oppose everything what the mainstream media say.

    That's why the same people who were anti-vaxxers during the pandemic are now pro-Putin. They think everything the mainstream media say is a conspiracy.

    =====

    If the mainstream media were pro-Putin these people would be pro-Zelensky. They just always blindly stick to the "counter-current", without thinking about it.

    No, it was illegal government of Ukraine who started a war against Donetsk and Luhansk. Russia bailed them out.

    Donetsk and Luhansk didn't accept illegal coup in Kyiv and declared sovereignty and these bandits started a war on them.

    Facts are facts but Russia has its own "facts". In Russia 2+2=5. In the rest of the world 2+2=4.

    (even the Victory Day in Russia is celebrated on 9 May while in the rest of the world - on 8 May)

    Yes it was.

    A bunch of bandits took out the president supported by over 90% of Donetsk and Luhansk.

    No amount of conspiracy theories and other mental gymnastics will change the result of 2010 elections.

    Who cares about the results in a tiny region of Donetsk and Luhansk? Nationwide he won with 53% of the votes.

    The rebels of Donetsk and Luhansk are just that - illegal rebels.

    And Ukrainian army had the right to defend its own territory against rebels supported by foreign forces (Russians).

    =====

    I was talking about 2004 elections you are talking about 2010.

    None of these are relevant for what happened in 2014. But it is well-known that Russia has been meddling in Ukrainian elections since 1991.

    This thread is for NON-RUSSIANS who support Putin. I don't need to ask Russians why they support Russia, it is their own country after all.

    Of course there are Russians who support Ukraine, like NFKRZ:

    Yeah, he won nationwide.

    End of story about legitimization of the coup.

    No.

    Armed Forces of Ukraine had no right to follow the orders of bandits who took over the government.

    And mind it — the military operation against Donetsk and Luhansk was ordered before the new election, by literal unelected bandits.

    I've stated this a million times and no one has yet addressed it: if Russia, China, or any nation that was antagonistic to the US was meddling in the elections of Mexico to put someone that favors them and arms were sent to Mexico - including defensive weapons that can easily be converted to strike at the US - the US government wouldn't think twice about invading Mexico.

    We've involved ourselves in foreign countries in the Western hemisphere (Cuba and Central America) just out of the fear the Soviets would take advantage.

    That is what nations will do if they can to keep an antagonistic nation out of their backyard.

    Zelensky thought he could say fuck you to Russia because he believed the US/NATO had his back just as the Kuwaitis said fuck you to Saddam that caused the 1st Iraq War except Russia has nukes and Saddam didn't.

    Then, of course, there is the ethnic Russian minority who became an "other" in Ukraine when a US orchestrated coup took out a legitimately elected president.

    Most posters view the situation through the lens of their own ethnic grievances ('Russians did horrible things to my ancestors and so I'm going to base my opinion on my ethnic grievance.') It's not about your ancestors. It's 2022. There are different players.

    I'm not Pro- or Anti- Putin. I'm pro-America and antagonizing Russia doesn't benefit us. It's just dumb.

    Euromaidan and the events that followed are dscussed since 29 minute 15 second of the documentary:

    ^^^
    Yanukovych used brutal force against students - this is why peaceful protests turned into Euromaidan.

    But it was actually Russia which was meddling in most of elections of Ukraine since 1991. Not the United States.

    You're American, why are you thinking so lowly of your own country, accusing it of meddling in foreign elections?

    You sound like an old Boomer. It was not any "US orchestrated coup" - it started when Ukrainian youth (mainly students) reacted against Yanukovych's dictatorship and his use of brutal force against peaceful protests. Young people are independent-minded people, they did not do that because the US told them to do so.

    They did that because they are capable of thinking for themselves, and they wanted to determine the future of their nation.
