France has always been a demographic giant until the last 100-150 years.

France's growth percentage-wise notably smaller than most others.

All the Russian Empire population is included in these 26.7 million people? People living under Russian Empire rule in Asia too?

It would have been interesting to have a figure for the First Reich (till 1806)/Deutscher Bund (from 1815 on).

Check the post above, but it's about 20 years later than OP estimation.

It had a lot to do with the earlier decrease in infant mortality near the end of the 13th century and a steady higher advancement in hygiene, medecine and agriculture/nutrition up until the 20th century.

In 1750, still 1 out of 3 childs didn't survive their first year (even much worse before), most of Europe were still on those higher state 200 years ago while every nations had a lot of childrens, less survived. Then some snowball effect (more people breed more people).

It's also seen in the largest cities throughout history, after the first growth spurts of ancient Rome and Constantinople, Paris was the first city to explode in population in Europe, followed by London but more centralized only on the capital in England.
