Josef Thorak (7 February 1889 in Vienna, Austria – 26 February 1952 in Bad Endorf, Bavaria) was an Austrian-German sculptor. He became known for oversize monumental sculptures, particularly of male figures, and was one of the most prominent sculptors of the Third Reich.

The title of the painting suggests that a peasant couple seated in a notary’s office in Austria is being robbed of everything they own. The two men coazing the farmer into signing the contract. ‘Um Haus und Hof’ is in the possession of the Deutsches Historisches Museum, Berlin. Displayed on loan in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nürnberg.

As for the paintings you can call them basically naturalistic. I prefer that style - which btw. is also performed by the so called old masters (Alte Meister) -, because you can easily judge yourself whether they are skilled or not. A notable proportion of non-naturalistic art is essentitially just trying to escape from being asessed regarding the skills.

Though I also like much the style of Spitzweg f. i. which has some comic-like vibe:
