Default Is the idea of celebrity becoming a thing of the past?

It seems to me that people are caring less these days about traditional establishment celebrity- such as Hollywood. This was evident by this years Oscars, where the "slap" from actor Will Smith at Comedian Chris Rock garnered more attention than the ceremony itself. The ratings are plummeting, as Hollywood becomes more woke. The "Grammy awards" also seem outdated. I don't think this means entertainment will die- but perhaps we will stop having a celebrity culture and more of independent movies and music . It is my hope that Hollywood will die. Are we now "Post-Celebrity"? Does it seem no longer relevant? or is it just me?

If you consider celebrities just the ones from Hollywood, there is a decline going on for long time already. However, celebrity cult is still going strong but using other medias (like the internet rather than traditional events), this also created a bit more niche fame – a Hollywood actor usually is known in many countries, internet-famous people usually have smaller audience... but a lot of people coming from "traditional fame" transitioned well to their internet presence, so they are still somewhat relevant.

Well it is true that, with the rise of reality TV and social media, people are increasingly becoming famous for not really doing anything (in the traditional sense). Also, cinema-going is rapidly becoming a thing of the past - even as a child, it was a place we'd regularly go out to as a social event and there'd often be big queues for films, but not anymore.

Celebrity culture is alive and well. Cristiano Ronaldo has 423 million followers on instagram and makes 1.7 million pounds per post.
Nowadays Hollywood movies are not as popular as they were 2 decades ago, so the most popular celebrities are not necessarily from hollywood.
Hollywood/Cinema is nowadays losing to Netflix and other streaming services. There's still plenty of celebrity worship, enough to look at instagram, tiktok etc.

To me it feels like the celebrity culture has changed.
Many younger people are following influencers/youtubers/reality tv stars.
It seems like traditional actors/actresses/rockstars/popstars they still exist and retain fanbases. But it doesnt feel like they are held in same high esteem as before.
Podcasts these days dont seem to feature traditional celebs too much, more often its MMA stars, Other podcasters, etc.

It seems like traditional celebs have lost their mystique a bit compared to 80's,90's
and early 2000's. Things seemed to changed in last 10 to 15 years it seems.

No, it's always been around, and likely always will be.
