You forgot about the Russians who the times of the Soviet Union came from the vicinity of the Urals, Voronezh and the Caucasus to work in the Donbass mines and staye there during to today.
Anyway, as early as at the end of the 19th century in modern eastern Ukraine terytory, almost every third inhabitant was Russian.

Eastern half of Ukraine is genetically more Northern-shifted than Western Ukraine, but it's been such a melting pot for a long time that there's nothing Russian about it anymore. Southern section of it is even less Russian, with half of its genepool originating from Greek, Bulgarian, Romanian, Serbian and Moldovan settlers.

Say what? Ukrainian urban popuilation of the imperial period was predominately Russian while rural was Ukrainian. Same goes for USSR period, it slightly changed through stimulating peasant migration to the cities. Now it is 50/50 but cities are almost totally Russian speaking, lots of people who had Russian parents and hold typical Russian surnames consider themselves to be Ukrainian. I'd say that during 20 century some Russians got ukrainized and some Ukrainians got russified through complicated processes.

All Ukrainians are Russian and they used to have that identity up until early 20th century. Yes, there are dialectal differences within Russian ethnosphere (same as Bavarians being German: their language is only partly intelligible to standard German speakers) but as with Germans each dialect merged into the other so there was smooth transition between that spoken in Galicia and that of Novgorod. There is also a big genetic continuity: most Rus continue to look typical only as Rus.

Funny how NATO-backed "nationalists" voted for a guy that not only isn't even Russian/Ukrainian/Belarusian (part of their own ethnic group) but has the nerve of expressing the idea of deporting Russians from their own country
