Another curious fact: not only were they mostly North Germans and thus blonder than average Germans, but according to some German physical anthropologists the emigrating groups from Germany were blonder and more Nordic-looking on average than the Germans from their respective regions who chose to not emigrate. In several countries of Europe the more Nordic stock seems to be the most prone to emigrate, perhaps because it was the last to settle.
