My own translation and original lyrics:

    https://lyricstranslate.com/en/ningu...-owns-sea.html

    Nobody Owns the Sea

If one day I don't come back
draw my name on the floor
ask for a wish to the waves of the sea
and keep it in your hand

    Whenever the night comes
    when there is no moonlight
give the wish to any wave
and ask it for me to come back

I bring the fate of the waters
in the waiting of the rocks
they say that it's time that erases the sorrows
who is it that erases the fears?

The sea belongs to no one
    nobody owns the sea
not even those who know how to sail it
    (x2)

    And if later I come
it was because the sea listened to you
let the smiles run across the beach
    that the storm is over

    What are we to do
    if the luck is decided
the hands that have us held to death
are of those who hold us to life

I bring a coral of anxieties
for wanting to know you lying down
greater than the pain that comes in the storms
is the one of waiting for the arrival

The sea belongs to no one
    nobody owns the sea
not even those who know how to sail it
    (x2)

I go soothed by the wind
    I walk without a schedule
on the boat there is a lament
that not even I know where it comes from

Prayers have been going though the beach
    waiting for the arrival
    fate is made gray
    whenever the boat doesn't come
and no one... and no one...

The sea belongs to no one
    nobody owns the sea
not even those who know how to sail it
    (x3)

    row, row, row...
    (pull the net)
    (half astern)
    (the net)
    (to pull the net)

A grave reminder that is very up to date.

I hope that one day I'll be standing next to some lighthouse on the Faroe Islands in a gloomy day, listening to this.

    Spoiler!

    lyrics (en):

    Pershingopolis

    Oh, if it falls
it's gonna be such a mess that no one's ever again getting off the ground
    lets out a radioactive rain
    that soaks even the heart
    oh, if it falls

    oh, if it falls
it opens up a huge hole
    lifts up a powdered dust
    that takes way the cough
and has the lung blown up

And the thing is, if it falls
there won't be a second time
neither for me, nor for you
nor the Pope, nor the dog
and it is when it falls
it opens up a huge hole
and if it falls, never again will there be anyone to put down the coffin
the thing is, if it falls, never again will there be anyone to put down the coffin

In Tokyo, in Monpracem, in Connecticut
in Vila Nova, Vila Nova d’Ourém
    in Minnesota, Vladivostok
    in Tripoli, or here
or in the Faroe, or in the Faroe Islands
in Faro, or in the Faroe Islands

In Tokyo, in Monpracem, in Connecticut
    in Vila Nova d’Ourém
    at the Sorbonne, in Minnesota
    Valladolid, or here
or in the Faroe, or in the Faroe Islands

    And trying to rebuild
It's gonna be putting up with old Abraham again
the hippies, and the female of the Cro-magnon
    neorealism, and the stubborn Timur
the ballistic treaties, and Gengis Dog himself.

This song by Fausto Bordalo Dias is, imo, one of the most beautiful classics of Portuguese music, haunting and transcendental beyond words.

Album: Por Este Rio Acima (1982)

American Pie prologue (Don McLean) en Cadjein (in Cajun):

    Trés longtemps passé,

J' me rappelle toujours comment çte belle muséque faisait sourére.

Et j' me savais qu'avéc aine chance

    Bein, bâ-bâye, Mameselle Tarte d'Amérique...

    1. "Pas si" (I Wonder if), from "Pas sűr si" (Not sure if). "maîte" = master.

    2. "est", and all singular auxiliary verbs replace plurals when preceded by plural markers "les, des, ces, mes", etc, unless emphasis is desired. "muette" (mute) is both feminine and masculine, probably from the lingering 17th century pronunciations "mwčt" (muet), masculine, and "mwčtuh" (muette), feminine, with final schwa later dropped, but final -t pronunciation retained in "muet", the two forms merging into "muette".
