    Default Great replacement in Lebanon

Lebanon is undergoing a "demographic replacement of the population", "knowing that one in two newborns is Syrian", denounces the Lebanese government, which calls for the departure of Syrian migrants.

The Minister of Social Affairs Hector Hajjar called once again yesterday for the departure of Syrian refugees from Lebanon, during the Brussels VI conference on Syria, meeting on Monday and Tuesday and devoted to fundraising for international aid to host the countrie' refugees.

In his speech, Mr. Hajjar first listed the “economic consequences” of the presence of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, accusing them of “draining foreign currency reserves (…) by making use of state-subsidized services “, while making “lose jobs to the Lebanese”. According to him, the consequences of the presence of these refugees are also reflected in an "explosion in the number of thefts and crimes", a "demographic replacement of the population, knowing that one in two newborns is Syrian", and an "exodus of educated Lebanese youth”. He further asserted that the presence of these refugees has “ecological” consequences. [...]

Additionally, there are between 174,000 and 260,000 Palestinians, mainly Muslims, in Lebanon. It's also one of the reasons why Lebanon has become a Muslim majority country.

It already took place in the 50-70s. After the creation of the colonial state of Israel, many Palestinian refugees (mainly Muslims) went to Lebanon and changed the demographic makeup of the country in terms of religion (i.e. more and more Muslims and less and less Christians), it was one of the underlying reason of the Civil War in the 70-80s

It has been well document by demographer Youssef Courbage

And how many more Palestinians are there in Jordan? I think Palestinians with their high birth rates will dominate demographically everyone in the region.

Indeed, I was referring to that in my previous post. Thanks for your precise explanations.

Aside from religion, aren't Lebanese and Syrians ethnically pretty much the same? What is the historic reason for them being two separate states in the first instance?

Yes, I think Palestinians are even the majority in Jordan. My Christian Palestinian friend who lives in Switzerland has also a Jordanian passport, by the way. But I think the situation is more tragic in Lebanon, because there's a religious, cultural change, the country was Christian not so long ago.

Even before 1975, Christians were never an outright majority in Lebanon.

In both Lebanon and Jordan, even third and fourth-generation Palestinians who have never stepped foot in Jericho or Ramallah are still classified as "refugees" and have all sorts of restrictions regarding property and employment.
