Default Why do Christians find hijab weird?

    Don't your nuns wear hijab?

I really don't understand. Is there anything more divine than women hiding their chastity?

This is command of the God.

because it is a garment created to protect from the sun and from the sand and wind of the desert

So wearing that in a European city where it is absolutely unnecessary, is as stupid as Eskimo dressed a bearskin coat.

So why do nuns wear it? You couldn't answer that.

Stop with your fallacious relativism! The veil in Christianity and in Islam has a totally different meaning.

Firstly, the relationship with the holy scriptures is totally different in Islam and in Christianity, invalidating radically any kind of possible comparison between the two veils. In Islam, real hermeneutics, that is the adaptation to a specific cultural context, it out of question.

Then, in Christianity, the veil is linked to women in prayer and symbolically nuns are “praying all the time”. The nuns’ veil marks their celestial belonging and their rejection of the spirit of the world. In Islam, it is the opposite. The veil has a social role linked to sexuality and it relegates women to their terrestrial belonging. It is linked to the lowest human instincts, to animality, to the pleasures of the senses. It sexualises women and little girls wearing it, saying that they are a “private turf”. Islamic holy texts link it to desire, to sex, to abuse and it is insulting males, who are seen as abusers in the making, as being perpetually in heat, not being able to control themselves, it is an insult to human diginity, an insult to human intelligence.

because it is a usual religious uniform since the history of mankind

they did not force their students to dress that way

they only have to dress like that for some religious ritual like communion. and even then it doesn't look too conservative in the past of catholic Spain, right?

Currently many of these work uniforms look infinitely more modern than the usual medieval clothing of many Islamic women.

That's an argument I've seen many muslims retort to. In the catholic world nuns probably make less than 1% of the female population. If some woman dont want to cover their head (as well as many other things they'd have to comply to) they'd just pick any other option. It's not mandatory to be a nun or cover your head (also, unlike what many non christians think, nuns don't cover their heads 24/7 that's just their uniform). Catholic women can choose. Muslim women can't.

Christianity and Islam are basically the same. And both are oppressive copies of Judaism, designed to sever people from their roots. If you really want to honour your ancestors, take a look at Tenggri.

Actually, the nuns’ veil is most probably inherited from that of the Vestals, priestesses of the Roman goddess Vesta. They were totally dedicated to the devotion towards Vesta. The parallel between the two is obvious.

Wearing a head covering has been apart many cultures but it has largely gone out of style in the West, aside from during Christian weddings and holy communions, but I think it was associated with modesty.

Nuns were always viewed in a certain way within society and many nuns stopped dressing in the traditional outfit, so they could work closer with the community and be apart of mainstream society.
