And bar rare individuals amongst "our" own here in NZ, imo, it won't disappear until the "victims" stop empowering themselves with its everyday use within "their popular culture". Quite clearly though, they're mostly low-class folk themselves so no real surprise there.

I once called a Black guy "a fucking nigger" at a casino. That wasn't very smart but he pissed me off. Fortunately, he didn't do anything and like most casinos on the east coast everyone else around us was Asian and knew very little English. FOB Asians love casinos.

I'm guessing you mean Maori's have adopted it from Afro-American culture for their gang shit.

I think it was on the road to being a forgotten old slur here before the influence of American culture rehabilitated it. Even so, I've almost never heard it used in real life.

The word "nigger" is not a racial slur, imo. It just means foolish person. Sometimes I call myself one and I say that to my pet birds as well. "Y'all don't be niggers!". As Nel Carter once said, it's just a word. The way people react to it gives it too much power. Somehow I wouldn't feel comfortable saying it to a colored person. It's a shame people are too sensitive.
