Surrogacy: rejected by her "sponsors", she is adopted 6 years later
Bridget is 6 years old. Born in Ukraine, she has just been welcomed into an American family. Disabled, this little girl was born by surrogacy. Early in the pregnancy, her Ukrainian surrogate mother was expecting triplets. One was aborted, another died at birth. Bridget, born prematurely, suffers from several disabilities, and the sponsoring parents no longer wanted her [1]. They authorized a cessation of treatment, to let her die, but Bridget survived. The surrogate mother then remained five months in the hospital with this little girl, offering her care and baptism. She was then transferred to an orphanage, where the head nurse, Marina Boyko, watched over her until her adoption. It was in April 2022 that an American family asked to adopt her: Philip and Kristie Graves, parents of four children. Having overcome the administrative obstacles [2] , they have just returned from Ukraine with Bridget.
[1] They paid 29,900 euros to the company BioTexCom for an “All Inclusive Standard” package.
[2] The Ukrainian authorities refused in particular to recognize the renunciation of the sponsoring couple, and did not recognize Bridget as an American citizen.
