This might be the most important point. That means that the political ideologues won't even think about it as they rail against everyone but the killer.

This will be ignored as politicians point fingers, pound chests, score points, and shift blame. They should report on comprehensive studies that show links between psychotropic drugs and violent crimes.

Negligence by the people around them and the authorities.

In almost every incident that I'm aware the mass shooter gives away what they plan to do and people around them don't do anything or if they the authorities fail. The murderer in Buffalo, for example, said in a class assignment that when he retired he planned to commit murder-suicide. He was sent to be psychologically evaluated. He told them, he was joking. That was enough for them to hear.

I understand it's terrible because it's children but you don't make decisions based on emotions. You don't pretend this is the norm when it's not just because it's major news.
The sad reality is that to many Americans their right to own a gun is more important than the lives of the victims of gun crime.

You have the highest rate of gun ownership in the world.
You have the highest rate, by far, of death by shooting.

Time to put 2 and 2 together.

This is a case of aberrant and diabolical behavior. It shouldn't have to be said, but evil is the common link among all mass murders, but I'll say it because certain politicians won't. People can debate gun laws all they want. Either way, they didn't stop the Bath School bombing (close to 40 dead students) or the Christmas parade murders (scores of injured children).

You're fortunate and unfortunate. Fortunate that nothing happened to you and unfortunate that the criminals had no fear and so they did as they pleased. From what it sounds ('numerous') your home was basically a second home to them. I can't imagine living like that. I want to sleep soundly.

Anyway I find it a waste of time discussing this. It's a regular occurrence and things don't change and they won't.
It's not a regular occurrence. It isn't statistically.

Americans don't like people discussing it and look on any discussion as ridicule.
If you're informed, then fine. I notice people who aren't American have absolutely no clue what they're talking about. They never consider the variables. They just think, "Why is America not like my country..."

The loss of so many people to this type of violence is beyond sad. I can't even express how I feel about these poor children
It is tragic and with tragic events unfortunately people will have their emotions manipulated.

America's rate of mental health issues appears to be on a par with other western countries. Western countries also would be the ones with more diagnosis of mental health issues.

It happened when I was a young single parent who worked fulltime. Break-ins here very rarely involve violence. Violence of course happens here but very rarely gun violence because gun ownership is very restricted. I like most other Australians want it kept that way.
