Should NATO retake Kaliningrad (Königsberg)?

Surrounded by NATO countries, the Russian detached territory of Kaliningrad is a serious anomaly. Formerly the northern half of East Prussia, it had been German for hundreds of years. Now that Russia is distracted, overstretched and weakened, is it the right time to retake this lost piece of the West?

I have talked with the Germans about this before.

The Germans would have to take half of Poland before making any territorial claims to Russia.

These lands were integrated in Germany for a longer time than East Prussia and they are immediately geographically attached to the rest of Germany.








Our common interest is to fracture Poland, not to be distracted by some bullshit like Kaliningrad.

Anomaly, maybe, but the current population is Russian speaking and for them its home.

But realistically German irredentism would be towards Pomerania, Silesia and possibly also Danzig, not far-removed Kaliningrad.

Some Russians are even for a fourth Baltic Reoublic though...On another forum, years ago, there was such a guy from Kaniningrad.

But lets be realistic, Oblast Kaliningrad is for Moscow a essential important geographic spot on the map which they will never ever give up, certainly not in todays political reality. If NATO wants to take it, you have WWIII.

I'm not suggesting giving it back to the Germans, who lost it quite fairly as a result of losing WW2. We could make it into a NATO condominium, mainly for military exercises and installations.
