I got excited when I discovered that I was descended from royalty. The thrill went away when I realized that my nerdy cousins were too.

I don't care about the royalty part but I enjoy the history of Gaelic Irish dynasties and the history of Irish surnames. With ydna both Creoda and my father's line are M222 which is related to the Uí Néill dynasty but also to a lot of Irish families. There was an Irish poster on Anthrogenica who had an amazing knowledge of Irish families and Irish history. Unfortunately he is no longer active there. He knew of the connections through ydna also. I think he is still on FTDNA. FTDNA are a great source of information with their Group Projects. People on there have a lot of of historical knowledge.

They research historical families such as below.

So we are excited to say that the results of a descendant of the O’Conor Don line with a verified pedigree dating back to Tairdelbach Már Ó Conchobair (1088 AD – 1156 AD), considered to be the last High King of Ireland, can now be publicly announced - he is R1b-BY18115+ under A259, which is exactly where he was anticipated to be!

It's like there was a great forum diaspora of Irish members. They're as rare as brown eyes in Galway.
