As a whole, do Greeks look more like the Italians or the Turkish?

The topic of Russopontians fascinates me for several years, I'm amazed how they retained Greek identity so far away from mainland Greece for centuries; except Jews, I don't know a "diasporan" that has retained its own identity abroad for centuries

Some have obvious Slavic admixture, some look Greek, others look like a Greco-Slavic-Tatar mix. Many have preserved their Greek looks and many artived fairly recently in the 17th century. Odessus was a Greek stronghold and played a major role in the Greek war of Independence.

Anyway, in the places where Greeks were the minority and were ruled by others, they were assimilated.Where Greeks remained the majority and retained their autonomy they preserved their identity including Trabzon Pontians, Ionian and Thracian Greeks.

Now these Ukrainian Greeks are mostly fake Pontians like those in Armenia, Georgia, Lebanon, Syria etc. Yet less fake than say, Lebanon Greeks because in 7kraine they are allowed to speak Greek and even have their own universities, unlike in other places. In Lebanon and Syria they speak Arabic as their mother tongue.

Despite the fact that many western Turks have European phenotypes and would pass unnoticed in Greece, overall the Turkish population has also a lot of phenotypes that can not pass in Greece, therefore a lesser degree of interchangeability.

I personally wouldn't. I mean, his looks are not met at all in the Levant. He isn't Orientalid or Arabid after all, which are by far the most common in the Orient. Plus, he just does look uniquely SE Euro to me, and in particular, just Greek.

I think it's hilarious I am being called out by

1) a 4chan kid that regularly uses lingo and slurs like "kike" for his blatant racism and anti-Semitism, while constantly posting his Anatolid mug until he gets the confirmation that he requires for his insecurities (ie a "euro" phenotype). You won't get any Pontic Greek who is more authentic than my family, we come from Kromni/Korum, which is the original homeland of the Tzan and the stronghold of the original 1462 Trebizondian survivors after the fall of the city, a place that hosted, among others, Princess Anna Komnenian herself briefly.

My family is the archetype Pontic Greek, not merely adoptive of the title like others. The dance you called "Pyrichios" but its real name is "Lazikon/Tromahton" originates from our area. People from our villages have the archetypal looks (pale skin with raven-black colored hair) and our elders called each other "Lazos". We know what we are and we don't pretend otherwise.

He is attacking his Greek identity simply because be is mostly non-Greek. I can assure the vast majority of Pontians, and I mean the GREEK Pontians, who have been residing in Greece since over 100 years, have diametrically opposite views.

All those resentful hateful new ”Pontians” have come to Greece since the 90s and many have not even Greek ancestry at all. They are Georgians, Armenians, Kazachs who may have a Greek grandmother and decided to be Pontians.

You don't know anything about Pontics or what they think of ... there's a variety of views, including mine, others who have opinions opposite to mine, etc ... and my family came in 1922. But I do find it hilarious that the most rabid and staunch supporters of the continuity of ancient Hellenism are the ones whose grandparents spoke Albanian and Aromanian a couple generations ago ... The cognitive dissonance is very strong with you, the State played a number on your people, thankfully we, as former Late Ottoman Greeks. escaped this brain-washing and we still have our traditional culture.

Pontians and their ancestors have lived all their lives in Greece, for centuries after centuries after centuries. You may say but Pontus is in Turkey, well no, Pontus was part of Greece until very recently. It was always ruled by and populated by Greeks. It was an Independent Greek state well into the 1600s. It stayed under Ottoman rule fewer years than Greece and the Balkans.

The Pseudo-Pontians have lived always OUTSIDE GREECE and have always been ruled by non Greeks. They even talk other languages as mother tongue. Georgia, Armenia, Kazachstan were never part of Greece. Pontians may have lived as a minority there but they were married into Armenian, Georgian and other families in order to integrate and assimilate. These people may have a Greek grandmother or grandfather, but rarely they have wholly Greek ancestry. In Trabzon they preserved their identity because they were always the majority ruled always by a Greek state and only after the Pontian genocide did many who stayed adopted the Islamic identity in order to save their lives.

This is historically and ethnographically false. Pontus was 100% Byzantine but at the same time consisted of a multi-ethnic empire that included others like Armenians, Georgians, Laz/Tzan, Chaldeans, even Venetians briefly, etc.

It had nothing to do with the Vlacho-Arvanite pseudo-state/kingdom of 1836, at least not initially. The self designation of Pontics was (and still is) Rum/Rumlari/Rhomaoi/Rhomioi not Greek.

They complain time and again that the Greek government abandon them and does not recognize them as Greeks. But there is a reason the Greek government deny to such people a Greek passport.

Yet that did not stop many Pontians illegally get hold a Greek passports. There was a huge scandal a decade ago, where many Armenians, Georgians bribed some people and illegally gained Greek citizenship and Greek passports on the fake ground they were ”Pontians”.

Yes, there is a good reason the worthless Greek state is refusing passports to "such people" who dare speak Greek (longer, by the way, than your Slavic/Albanian/Aromanian speaking grandparents) but obviously not 'racially pure' enough for the local cat-ladies like you, while at the same time flooding the country with passports to Pakistanis and Afghans, who are obviously going to assimilate perfectly due to their very compatible cultural and ethno-religious origins

Soon, the first generation of Pakistani Greeks are going to start posting on forums, and the cat-lady here is going to be throwing hissy fits telling them they are fake, not real descendants of Pericles (like her)!!!
