I am atheist so maybe I can´t understand Christian mentality in this issue.

When they had one-child policy in China, some doctors drowned newborn "additional" children to water buckets. Or if you want example about adults, extermination camps are one. Do you really consider these more humane and acceptable than aborting an unborn who doesn´t understand or maybe even feel anything?

Assuming that an abortion is a murder, it is hard to say when human life starts. Is using contraceptive pills also a murder? (There are also contraceptives meant to be taken afterwards - it could be called non-medical abortion).
