Default Have you experienced/witnessed any type of natural disasters?

Like earthquakes, tsunamis, liquefaction, volcanoes, tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, destructive storms with big hail or wildfires for example.

I live in a relative "safe" part of the Europe, and the World in general, still my region is vulnerable to many earthquakes, since nearby is located on of the most active seismic zone in the Europe, Vrancea region in the southeastern Carpathians, which can produce big earthquakes with big magnitude of 7 and even 8 on Richter scale. Every year here happen at least one earthquake of 4.5 - 5 magnitude, with big ones of 7 and more every 30-40 years. Destructiveness of local earthquakes is what almost all of them occurs on a very big deeps, and can affect a very big area, big ones can be felt even in Moscow like the 1802 8.2 Vrance Earthquake. Big ones I never experienced, but these of 4.5 - 5 magnitude, yes, and the shaking was pretty strong.

Other types of natural disasters are super rare, which is weird considering local climate which technically is ideal in producing big destructive storms with hail and even tornadoes, still they are rare.

I experienced hurricanes in Moscow, few times in my life. And I think I experienced a Romanian earthquake echo in Nikolaev, as a little kid.

I've only experienced a couple of earthquakes in Melbourne. The biggest was last year with a magnitude of 5.9

My area in the north was prone to earthquakes. Strongest I witnessed was 5.3 on Richter scale but it felt even stronger. I lived in old brick building with wooden floors and whole building shaked like it was a boat on the wold sea. Since than I develop big fear of earthquakes.

Down south is the same risk but I live in much stronger stone house and am much calmer due to that. Here biggest threat are forest fires in summer season. And few years ago, village was hit by a small tornado but fortunately only few outer houses got damaged.

Regarding fires, my area is especially endangered. We have fire paths trough out whole island and firefighters on observatory deck above village 24-7 when summer season starts. I remember worst fire happened when I was a kid, when drunk German tourist fired a flare from his boat into nearby forest and quarter of Island burned down.

There was another fire few years ago but we have lot of special planes made for that and they contained it in time.

Yes, M=5.5 (Richter) 2 years ago. My building is safe but still very unpleasant experience

And forest fires along the coast...dreadful, but we know how to control them, so turists are safe here
