Humans are very primitive we are not even a type I civilization on the kardashev scale. The world is overpopulated and climate change is the greatest market failure in history.

Individually most humans are like chimpanzees. In groups especially above 150 humans need to believe in common myths or fiction ( lies) in order just to function.

While I do agree world's population should be drastically reduced, the methods used by the commies mentioned were particularly brutal and they mostly eliminated their countries' best, slowing down (or totally stopping) any kind of progress, and traumatizing the remaining survivors. A best option would be China's late one child policy or S.Korea's approach to tax people who have more kids heavily. It should be particullarly done to immigrants and they should also fight in wars, like they did in good ol' Athens.
