I live literally in the city center, everything is for me a short walk and I have everything close.
And if that's not enough I have very good public transportation around me to get me anywhere pretty fast.

Same. I have a driver's license (relatively recent) and it is currently lying around. I also now live almost in the center, and here everything is within walking distance, including schools.
For trips out of town (and to the airport) there is an excellent railway, plus every person has at least one friend with a car.

He is right, Europe is not USA, if youre not living in the suburban areas or remote village you dont need car. Most of peoples have no car, or they dont use it very often. Europe has high population density so everything is very close, and the public transport is very advanced.
