I don't understand how Spaniards are classified in the USA.

Aren't those who speak Spanish classified as Hispanic or 'non-white'? A lot of publications seem to put people like Javier Bardem, Antonio Banderas and others in the POC category and leave out Southern Euros. Why is this? Are they considered less white than other Southern Euros?

Why think entertainment journalists are well educated? The author probably thinks Bardem is Mexican. The author probably thinks all Spanish speakers are 'Mexican.'probably doesn't know there are White Mexicans. He probably doesn't know there are Black Mexicans.

Journalists are the lowest of the low. Anyone who has dealt with them know. Entertainment journalists is the lowest. Sports journalists are a close second.

Often times entertainment journalists will basically take from other articles instead of actually doing any work and this is why a lot of nonsense about famous people becomes 'fact.' The rumor or an intentional lie gets repeated by so many journalists that the public think it's true.

I just looked it up. Lusitania was a region of the greater Hispania, and a part of the sub-region called Hispania Ulterior. This was my original question, whether Lusitania was part of Hispania or separate from it. Then I guess based on pure geographical definitions, Portuguese can be called Hispanic. But they they are Lusophones, I still think Lusitanic would be a better term for the Portuguese.

I dont care about the term, to start nobody in Spain uses it, but if someone should be called Hispanic are Spaniards, Portuguese and Andorrans.

It has nothing to do with the Spanish-Anerican War (lolz) and everything to do with a large Spanish speaking population that comes in many different racial varieties and so a cultural term (Hispanic) is used to describe them.

Well it makes no sense to seperate white hispanics from the general white population unless there was a prejudice against just hispanics in general. Thats why I think it had to have roots in the spanish american war. I dont think before the spanish american war they would have been seperated like that under census.

It was people representing the Latin American diaspora in the US (mostly Mexican-Americans) that decided on the term Hispanic. It wasn't WASPs in the US government. The term became official in the 1980 census. South American had been tested in a previous census but it caused confusion (many southern White Americans thought it meant them).

Before the word they referred them as persons of spanish origin or Or have spanish surnames
