It seems as though you could set your watch to another expected protest by these people. They vandalise property, close down cross-country rail lines, intervene/blockade resource extraction outfits...consequently increasing expenditure and stifling economic growth in the process. Yet Canadians don't seem to have any problems conceding to their every demand. Appeasing their wishes by abandoning what is rational and best for the nation as a whole.

Canada has a long tradition of honouring the ill thought-out land treaties the British made, boomers gave them everything they want because they're useful idiots to shut down industrial expansion in rural areas (when Pierre Trudeau issued the White paper in 1969 to end the Indian Act and integrate all natives into Canadian society for good, no special privileges or treatment, the backlash was immense, and they quickly withdrew the idea, after all, aboriginal reserves are little third world countries scattered through Canada). In Canada, practically all of the First Nations land no longer utilised by bands was acquired through legal treaty and sale. In America on the other hand, the settlers beat the bloody shit out of anybody who stood in their way, then settled the territory they'd wrested away by right of war.

Most people naively assume they blockaded railroads and pipelines because they were fighting oil expansion, despite the actual tribal councils agreeing to the deal, 99% of the native groups trying to block pipelines in Canada are funded by American business interests, combined with a massive disinfo and agitprop campaign run by the Tides Foundation (backed by American oil interests). Pre-contact their numbers were kept in check due to things like famine, tribal war and disease, now this shit will go on till they get bred out of existence. Anyway, the worst aspect about Canadian history is that we didn't kill enough Injuns.
