Also, casualties include the wounded, obviously. Some are too crippled to return to the fight. Others need time to heal before returning.

Anyway, the knowledge that there exist reservists and that conscripts get called up during times of war, etc. is just basic knowledge and shouldn't have had to be explained to anyone. The Ukrainian government has been conscripting men from the beginning of the conflict.

This is what I learned from the 'US/NATO didndu nuffin' crowd' here at this forum: the lack of critical thinking skills or just 'I don't care enough to look at it; I'll just assume based on Russia invading that it's all Russia's fault cuz, like, they invaded...' Some rely on the establishment news that literally gets shown to be bullshit later (Ukraine military is winning, Ukrainian military counteroffensive is on the way, Russian soldiers morale is low, Russian soldiers refuse to fight, etc.) and they keep drinking the Kool-Aid regardless and then you have those who don't even bother to keep up with what is going on but have an opinion.

That's beyond sad, this whole war is an exercise in stupidity on their part, the eastern part of the country now went too far with this, there's no way they'll want to go back to Ukraine and find out what's in store if they stay. Wether there'll be retribution from Kiev or not will have to be seen, but they sure as hell don't want to stick around and find out, an exodus to most of them would be out of the question.

I'm just beside myself with how people have soaked up this whole affair. You've got 2 countries with negligible differences to Western eyes, one feared for its size and erstwhile might(nevermind the fact that it was conjoined with a handful of others, including the one it's now fighting) and the other which only became a player on that continent 30 years ago, in that brief tenure, it was a reasonably well-off post-soviet republic that took very little time in becoming the eastern European banana republic we all know and pretend to love.

People are acting like Russia stormed into motherfucking Luxembourg, both are utterly foreign to the Western man, rather cynical to pretend you feel more for Ukraine than the average Russian or Belarusian. I'm honest enough to acknowledge I don't truly care for either state, but know which one's playing the losing game and human enough to feel for them when their pseudo-government feeds them to a grinder.
Everyone just envisioning them as merry free loving people that want to live free, Cossack dancing while they wear their cute little embroidery and wheaty crowns, then come the gray clad Russki quasi Mongols, with their fur caps to spoil the fun for them. Grow up! This was long time coming it could've been avoided if Ukraine were told to pipe down, don't go writing checks to Russia that its ass can't cash, since they have the closest army that can give them a fight, while we live an ocean away and leave the eastern chunk be and if dealing the Russian blot was too much of an anathema for them, let them go to Russia or at it alone, but noooo, let me talk tough in hopes others come to my aid. Russia's not gonna conquer the whole of Ukraine, they can't even afford that. Ukraine by itself is bleeding 5 billion per day, FFS. Fuck knows when they'll get out of that debt. What freedom is that?
