It is very gloomy indeed, but to me it was very atmospheric and poetic, not depressing. Maybe I was in a right mood to read it.

Lol, well he was very controversial for sure.
His writing style is not mainstream, but I like it. Blindness is truly captivating book.

This also had an impact on me as a boy:

I was expecting to find the typical detective tale but this one was way "darker".
I’ll have to read that one too. I was always drawn to ‘darker’ genres, I read Bram Stoker’s Dracula when I was like 8 lol

At least here, it was always harder to find anthologies than a novel. But it's also very common among american authors (of any genre) to keep creating sequels of their original works. That's what happened with this one: I think it became a trilogy and now it can be found as a novel on Amazon. I'm a little bit afraid to read the following stories since it could ruin the fantasy I had already formed as a kid. But, most people is giving it a 5 star rate so I could probably give it a try.

Some anthro trivia: the original title was "10 little niggers"... and for obvious reasons it was later changed to "10 little indians". In the end, they decided to play it safe and avoid any mention of people or race.

    Interesting I hadn’t known that.
A lot of literature has been edited from its original for the same reason.

That's the case sadly... I read that (biggest irony) they wanted to rewrite 1984 because some parts were offensive or some stupid thing like that. Though I've read the spanish version I'd like to read the english original... One question C: Is it common to find used book stores in the US? Or is it a thing of the past? Here we have tons (and sometimes you can find books in english too).

Yes we do! They’re not as abundant but they are there (normally hidden in the inner city) I love the aesthetic of used book stores. They’re chaotic yet organized at the same time.
I’ve bought a few books from them (price difference isn’t much less actually) but I’m also a bit picky. If the pages look dirty then I am a bit grossed out by them.

lol me too. Some books are really old and smell of dust and old so I have to ventilate them. Some others are marked or highlighted, I hate that.
