According to historical sources Bessi have avoided romanization, because they lived isolated in the mountains. Albanian language is not Romance, but came from some non-romanized paleo-Balkan population. Bessi are the best candidates for proto-Albanians. Interesting connection of Albanians and Bessi is Besa from Albanian culture https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Besa_(Albanian_culture)
On the Serbian-Bulgarian border near Dimitrovgrad exist mountain micro region of non-Slavic name known as Burel, and in Albania exist town Burrel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burrel_(town)). Interesting, town Burrel is in Mat area and according to Kaplan Resuli Burović Albanians settled in Mat in the late 9th or early 10th century as auxiliary troops of Bulgarian emperor Simeon in one of his campaign towards west. Albanian-Romanian linguistic connection indicate on East Balkanic origin of Albanians https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albani...c_relationship
Albanian-Bulgarian genetic relations in basic Albanian haplos from the early middle age indicate also East Balkanic origin of Albanians

Proto-Romanians and proto-Albanians were for sure related people and lived somewhere near each other.

There's significant number of Slavic words + those with general indo-european origin.

I know, but Albanian and Romanian language have also connections in the other elements outside of vocabulary. Albanian language have more similarities with East Romance languages (Romanian, Aromanian and Meglenitic) than with Dalmatian language which was language of romanized Illyrians.

Serbs have begun to settle NW Bosnia in 15th century (mostly from Herzegovina, modern Montenegro and Raška), and in 16th century have settled in large numbers from same regions. In the last 500 years Serbs are majority in that part of Bosnia.
Croatians who lived there in the middle age when Ottomans came escaped to west and northwest in the regions which were under the Habsburg control. Small modern Croatian community of NW Bosnia are not remnants of medieval Croatians of area, but descendants of settlers from more southern and eastern regions as western Herzegovina and Tropolje in late Ottoman period and colonists from Lika from the period of AH occupation/rule (1878-1918).
