American does have poor urban neighborhoods but the typical American lives in far safer neighborhoods so the idea that average American neighborhood is inundated with crime is completely false. Why can't you go for a walk in those neighborhoods though? It's not that they are poor, but that they are violence and crime ridden. It's not just some neighborhoods, but whole cities like Detroit or most of New Orleans and much of Chicago for instance that are very dangerous and a pale face like you could get "scalped" around them parts just for being white and you know it.
