Default Dacia cars sold in US?

    https://www.hotcars.com/this-is-why-...the-us-market/

Dacia is a highly successful brand in Europe and thanks to its affordability it could boost electric vehicle opportunities in the US.

Here’s a crazy thought for lawmakers: consumers need affordable, safe cars. This is especially true today, when gas prices are again ticking up, interest rates are rising, and inflation shows no signs of slowing down. Last December, the average new car price climbed to $47,077, according to Kelley Blue Book. In 2021 alone, the average new automobile cost in America increased by $6,220, while in 2020, the price of the average new car rose by $3,301. To make matters worse, experts forecast that supply chain shortages, trade disruptions, and the global chip shortage are going to last until 2024. This means that consumers shouldn’t expect significant price drops for new vehicles. But while the entire Western hemisphere suffers because of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the sanctions imposed on Russia, and the subsequent inflation, Europeans at least, can enjoy compact cars and sport utility vehicles that have great value.

Take, for example, Volkswagen Group-owned Seat, Stellantis-owned Peugeot and Dacia, the Romanian automaker owned by Renault; these European brands are highly successful in the Old Continent, but you won’t find them on American roads. Dacia, for example, has built the Sandero, which was Europe's best-selling car in July 2020. The Duster is another best-selling model. Recently, Renault has announced that global sales of the Romanian SUV have reached 2 million after 12 years on the market. Meanwhile, the pandemic didn’t stop Dacia’s momentum, and the car company was the third-best sold brand in Europe in 2021. As such, the sales of Dacia increased by 3.1 percent in 2021 to 537,095 units, according to Romania Insider. Given the market success of the Dacia brand, it is difficult to understand why the company is not expanding in the United States, especially when there are plans to bring the brand to Latin America in 2023. While until recently, American consumers could ignore the lack of affordable options in the market, this is no longer the case, so this is why we want Dacia to expand to the US market.

The Renault Group has positioned Dacia as a budget brand. All models are affordable and popular with commuters and young families who don’t want to spend too much on vehicles. For instance, the subcompact Sandero has a starting price of $13,314 and the popular sport utility vehicle, Duster starts from $13,898 in Germany and from $19,668 in the United Kingdom, according to Carscoops. Meanwhile, consumers that want the premium trim, the Duster Extreme SE, can find the car for as low as $20,302 in Germany and from $23,739 in the United Kingdom. Elsewhere, experts crowned the Dacia Spring assembled in China as the most affordable electric vehicle in Europe, and it became an instant best-selling success in Romania. European dealerships sold the Spring for $20,200.

It’s also worth noting that Dacia builds a wide range of vehicles that satisfy the needs of various audiences. This means that buyers can select between different subcompact cars and small sport utility vehicles. Recently, the Romanian automaker announced the arrival of Jogger, a seven-seater family car that is currently retailed for $17,553 in the United Kingdom. In France, the Jogger has a starting price of $16,981 as a five-seater, and $17,844 as a seven-seater, according to Carscoops. The Renault Group forecasts that the Dacia Jogger hybrid will become the most affordable hybrid vehicle in Europe.

Renault sold 40,000 units of the Dacia Spring in the first eight months since its release, but this is hardly surprising if we consider how affordable this EV is when compared to its rivals. Given the low price and positive reviews of the “baby SUV,” it wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that the Spring could be the best car for American city dwellers who want an EV but can’t afford one.

In November 2021, the average transaction price for an electric vehicle in the U.S. was $56,437, according to Kelley Blue Book. Meanwhile, different reports suggest that more consumers would buy electric vehicles if automakers would lower purchase prices. For example, the eBay Motors Group’s latest Consumer Insight Panel research showed that 62 percent of respondents considered electric vehicles too expensive compared to gas cars. But, 49 percent of respondents said they would switch to electric vehicles if these became more affordable. Since coming to power, President Joe Biden has prioritized vehicle electrification, setting clear targets for the future. For instance, President Biden signed an Executive Order that seeks to make 50 percent of new U.S. auto fleet electric by 2030. If the government allows European automakers like Dacia to sell their electric vehicles here, the switch to zero-emission cars may happen faster.
